University of Austin

Dare to think. change the world.

A Filmmaking Campaign.

Since October 2023, Film Mavericks has been partnering with the University of Austin (UATX) to film some of their live events including the “Family Night Out!” (FNO) series at Pershing Hall, and turn them into promotional content for the events and marketing content for UATX.

The Film Mavericks team has been thrilled to work with UATX because of their shared values for the pursuit of truth and commitment to the freedom of speech. We have a long history of working with like minded individuals, organizations and political campaigns to further the cause of freedom and the fearless pursuit of truth.

It is our intent to expand our partnership with UATX to further the great mission of the university of changing the world, starting with the 100 founding students.

UATX Live

Michael Shellenberger’s speech on Saturday, February 10 at 1:30PM the Omni will be filmed with 3 cameras. We will produce a full length version of this including his slides. We will also produce 3 social media reels from this content.

We will also be running AV for a wirecast from one classroom to another from Noon-8PM that day. We will handle the audio and video and switch with the slide deck to cast into a separate room. We will also make all of these videos available for use after the event.

In addition to this we propose dedicating one person on site / on demand the entire event series February 9-11 to capture b-roll so that we can begin creating a catalog of footage of students on campus for use in various marketing videos. We’re willing to offer this at no cost to UATX as a good-faith demonstration of our commitment to building a long-term relationship together. If it’s permissible to serve in this capacity, please let us know!

SXSW

UATX has asked for several productions during SXSW including during events on Tuesday, March 5, Wednesday March 6 and Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Scarborough Building. The March 5 event fit within our normal scope of work (like the FNO series) and we can produce that for our already discounted rate of $2,500 to include the following:

  • Filming 2-3 individual interviews of key speakers (15 min each) before event starts;

  • Filming and editing full event to produce the following deliverables;

  • Video of full event, appropriate for YouTube;

  • Three (3) reels for social media highlighting 3 different key themes.

Additionally we will film the VIP reception (b-roll only) on March 5 - $1500

March 6 we will film b-roll of the Mill Institute Lunch. - $1500

The March 9 filming will include a forum, an online live-stream, AV setup and potentially stage setup.  We estimate $14,500 and here is a breakdown of the costs for this filming:

  • Filming 2-3 individual interviews of key speakers (15 min each) before event starts;

  • Filming and editing full event to produce the following deliverables;

  • Video of full event, appropriate for YouTube;

  • Three (3) reels for social media highlighting 3 different key themes.

  • Livestreaming onto multiple platforms using Restream.

  • 8 foot stage and pipe & drape.

This includes one (1) full room of AV: projectors, screens and speakers, 4 mics, 5 AV techs/camera operators, switchers, restream livestream setup and wireless feed through the building.

Server/Data Access

Film Mavericks proposes to build a server dedicated to UATX video projects with hybrid backup sync and Backblaze redundant offsite backup. This will ensure the safe storage of all footage and projects. It will also provide easy and immediate access for UATX to all of Film Mavericks video raw files, project files and finished videos. This will enable UATX and Film Mavericks to be able to easily collaborate and work as a team without delay.

Budget (one time expense):

QNAP Server (This is the main unit) - $2900

2X 4 packs of 22TB HDDs (These are the 8 hard dives that we install into the server)- $3600

2X 4TB M.2 SSDs (These are the cache drives for speed and reliability) - $640

Extended Thunderbolt Cable (For speed and reliability of connection to our senior editors machine) - $370

Total $7510

Plus the monthly fee for BackBlaze off site cloud redundancy. This fee increases based on the amount of data. $6/TB/month

Community Events

We have a current agreement of filming and editing 1 event per month for $4500.  In addition to that we added the filming of key interviews for an additional $1000.  For each event we are creating a full length video for YouTube and 2-3 reels for social media.  We would also archive all of the footage including several beautifully filmed interviews to be cataloged for future use.

The total for this is $5500/ per event.

The expansion of this work would be to do the same thing at 2 events in Texas each month - using client’s discretion for Family Night Out, Admissions or Talent Network events in Austin, donor events in Dallas, etc) as well as 1 event in another part of the country per month.  Each of these four events would include production of the same type of videos as well as a cataloging of all footage for future use.  Adding in a $1000 travel fee for the non-Texas event.

If done a la carte this would total $16,500/month. (not including a travel fee)

If UATX is interested in moving to a monthly retainer, we can offer a much deeper discount.

New Discounted Event Retainer

Film Mavericks proposes a monthly retainer contract that would substantially reduce the cost for UATX to honor the commitment to these monthly projects.  Starting with a six (6) month trial engagement, Film Mavericks is willing to offer a 10% discount on the a la carte rate for the monthly retainer. Additionally Film Mavericks would offer a twelve (12) month agreement for a 15% discount. That would bring the total to $14,025 monthly, not including additional fees for travel to locations outside of 60 miles of Dallas, Houston or Austin.

JBP Inspired YouTube Videos

Film Mavericks has taken inspiration from Jordan B Peterson’s style of YouTube videos to create a series of videos that will be filmed at each event. Lauren Postler will conduct interviews with the presenters of the events that we will film and create videos similar to the one below. These will be priced at $500 each for the edit. This represents a 33% discount from FM’s normal rate on these types of edits (normally $750 each). We would advise to collaborate on this project by having UATX designers create the thumbnails. Alternatively, FM can make the thumbnails for an additional $150 each. (Below is not an example of a FM thumbnail).

We would leverage these videos both on the YouTube platform as well as Rumble.

Rumble is a quickly growing platform that UATX needs to leverage as it attracts a crowd that is more freedom of speech oriented. It was birthed as a reaction to YouTube beginning to sensor content. Rumble will both attract a new audience as well as become a safe place to store content that YouTube could potentially ban.

“Building a University” Documentary

Documentary filmmaking is taking the nation by storm. What was once a more fringe art form is now mainstream with nationwide theatrical releases. The rise of streaming entertainment platforms like YouTube, Netflix and Prime have played a huge role in documentary filmmaking becoming one of the more dominant film art forms.

Below is a trailer for a feature length documentary that was awarded 2nd place overall in the WPP International Honors of Excellence Filmmaking competition in 2021. The film was produced by Film Mavericks for the 2020 US Presidential candidate from the Libertarian Party, Dr. Jo Jorgensen.

The University of Austin has inquired about Film Mavericks producing a documentary film about the building of a new university. We have been in communication with Emergent Order Foundation about collaboration and are thrilled to partner with them, other vendors and the internal UATX team along the way to bring this film to life.

Film Mavericks proposed following the same game plan they used in the making of “Longing for Liberty.”

We were originally contracted to film Dr. Jorgensen’s speeches and a vlog of her daily life on the campaign trail. After doing this for 3 weeks we realized that the library of content had been built up to the point that with a few more weeks of filming with a new purpose, and a few principle interviews they could make a compelling documentary film.

This would be the plan for creating the “Building a New University” film. We would use the ever growing library of footage, in addition to several principle interviews to create a film documenting the founding of the University of Austin.

The film would be ready for the October anniversary of the University of Austin.

The budget for this film has yet to be discussed.
