A blog that went Viral
Sara is an amazing woman that embodies the characteristics of the Proverb 31 woman in incredible fashion. She is a full time mom and homeschooler to our 3 kids who didn’t have much of an online social media following. Despite this, the story of God working powerfully in her life has reached over 11,000 visitors.
We’d encourage you to read some of the amazing God-stories that we wrote about on her blog here. https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/sarabunch/journal
If you haven’t interacted with a blog like this before, its helpful to know that you should scroll down to the bottom first to follow along to hear this powerful story in chronological order.
Jordan’s skill and extensive experience as an interviewer & storyteller are critical to this mission.
Jordan’s early career was in full time ministry at a local church as a college minister and dorm director at Abilene Christian University where he got a Bachelors in Christian Ministry and a Masters in Domestic Missions. This led him to a unique skillset as a documentary filmmaker who understands how to draw out whats laying behind the surface in an interview setting and rise the deeper emotions up to the surface.
He has worked for dozens of Christian non-profits creating compelling, emotionally powerful films that elicit action, participation and donations.
A recent short film he produced for $10,000 for a local charity brought in over $100,000 in donations in the first hour of its release!
A show Jordan created with the founder of Sedera Health, Tony Dale.
Hollywood Quality
In todays world of oversaturated media, consumers will simply move on from anything that isn’t up to the quality standards they have come to expect from their favorite TV shows and movies. In order to have the kind of impact you need for this project, the quality has to be of the highest caliber.
This is why the Libertarian National Party reached out to Film Mavericks to create a documentary about their 2020 Presidential Candidate, Dr. Jo Jorgensen. And this is why Amazon chose to host the film on Prime Video.
Return on Investment
The Harsh Reality
39.5% of Americans will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime. (source)
In 2018, Americans paid $5,800,000,000 out of pocket (not including insurance) for cancer treatment. (source)
Sara was told her chemotherapy treatment would cost between $200,000-300,000 for the cash price.
She was also told that she would have to get another chemotherapy treatment every 2-7 years for the rest of her life.
Conservatively, Sara’s lifetime chemotherapy bills have been over $1,750,000. However it’s more likely much higher considering rising costs over time.
At Scale
Sara’s lifetime cancer expenses potentially decreased from $1,750,000 to around $60,000 by choosing integrative treatment in Mexico.
Given 2 out of 5 American’s will have cancer in their lifetime and over 300,000 Samaritan Members a conservative estimate shows a savings of hundreds of millions of dollars.
The Budget
The Short Film (10-15 minutes) - $40,000-50,000
This film would focus on the personal journey of the Bunch family, documenting the emotional rollercoaster, the quest for alternative treatments, the hope found at the Immunotherapy Institute in Mexico and the remarkable way God showed his hand throughout this journey. In addition, showcasing the compassion and support of the Samaritan community along the journey will provide a powerful testimony for the benefits of membership. This intimate narrative would resonate with current members and attract prospective ones. By featuring the cost comparison between “standard of care” and “integrative treatment,” we'd underline the potential savings for the entire community.
The Featurette (About 45 minutes) - $125,000-150,000
Expanding on the short film, this pitch involves a more comprehensive exploration of Sara’s health journey, the integrative health care options available and the international institutions offering them. By introducing more individual experiences, testimonials, and scientific insights, the documentary could emphasize the effectiveness of integrative treatments and inspire more members to consider them. Additionally, expert interviews from the Immunotherapy Institute founders and lead doctor could provide a clearer explanation of the cost benefits, reinforcing the economic advantages for the Samaritan community.
The Feature Film (About 90 minutes) - $300,000
This version would have a broader scope, encompassing not only Sara’s personal stories but also in-depth explorations of the health care systems in the U.S and Mexico, the science behind chemotherapy vs immunotherapy, and the financial impacts on individuals and communities. A cinematic, emotional, and intellectual exploration of the topic would be designed to foster better understanding, giving confidence in integrative cancer treatments, and encourage more people to join Samaritan Ministries to get both cost savings and medical freedom.
The Docu-series (40 minutes each, pricing is scalable.)
Expanding the scope beyond just cancer, this series would explore the myriad of health challenges that members of Samaritan Ministries face. Each episode could focus on a unique health journey, whether it's cancer, complicated pregnancies, chronic conditions, or unexpected medical emergencies. By showcasing a variety of experiences, the series would reveal the shared struggles, resilience, and mutual support within the community.
One episode might follow a couple navigating a high-risk pregnancy with the support of Samaritan Ministries, exploring both the emotional journey and the financial implications. Another could tell the story of a member traveling to Mexico for integrative cancer treatment, comparing the process, cost, and outcome to standard of care treatment in the U.S. Yet another could delve into the world of a member living with a chronic condition, highlighting the ways in which Samaritan Ministries has eased their lifelong burden.
In addition to personal stories, episodes could incorporate interviews with medical experts, health economists, and policy makers to provide context and explore the wider implications of these personal experiences. These stories combined will serve to underscore the value of being part of Samaritan Ministries — not just in terms of financial support, but also as a community that offers emotional support and shared knowledge in times of crisis. By offering viewers an intimate look at these experiences, the series would aim to inspire, inform, and attract potential members to the Samaritan community.
Distribution
Amazon Prime Video
I have a door open here as my film “Longing for Liberty” landed on here.
175 million US Prime members have access to Prime Video.
It is perceived as on par with Netflix/Hulu/MAX/Disney+ etc.
It can be made available for free or pay per view. (I recommend free)
Angel Studios
This platform is ideal for this film.
Subscriptions are free.
Its a primarily Christian audience.
It isn’t over flooded with content thus it will be easy to get noticed.
I don’t have a door open to this platform yet but I suspect we can do it.
YouTube
It is by far the most accessible to anyone.
There is no barrier for entry.
We can pay to boost viewership in a target demographic.
Theatrical Releases - These provide additional buzz, and become recruitment tools for Samaritan. We could have an interview time where someone from Samaritan interviews Jordan & Sara. We could have an info table about Samaritan in the lobby. Sign ups, merch, etc.
Movie Theaters
FM has done quite a few of these. You can rent out the theater for a flat fee and then sell tickets (or not) on your own via EventBright, etc.
Large Churches
Could be either a free event or a paid event.
Parents date night event
Launch in DFW… Take it on tour…
Podcast Tour/Influencer Marketing - We search out podcasters and YouTubers who are interested in Christian content, or medical content, or exposing corruption, etc.
